About Transition Venice

Transition Venice is part of the worldwide grassroots Transition movement to help make our communities more food and energy resilient. Please join us if you would like to know what you can do to make your life and our community less vulnerable to peak oil, ecological limits to our economic system, a warming planet, sea level rise..... Our membership is diverse from people who try to follow permaculture practices, design energy efficient buildings, build their own solar hot water and electric systems, build electric bicycles, create home or community gardens, love Mother Earth and want to participate in some way. We welcome students, teachers, and all who are curious to "be the change."  By building resilience through community, our desire is to facilitate transitioning to a better way of life, together.

The Transition Town Movement

The Transition Movement is comprised of vibrant, grassroots community initiatives that seek to build community resilience in the face of such challenges as peak oil, climate change and the economic crisis. Transition Initiatives differentiate themselves from other sustainability and "environmental" groups by seeking to mitigate these converging global crises by engaging their communities in home-grown, citizen-led education, action, and multi-stakeholder planning to increase local self reliance and resilience. They succeed by regeneratively using their local assets, innovating, networking, collaborating, replicating proven strategies, and respecting the deep patterns of nature and diverse cultures in their place. Transition Initiatives work with deliberation and good cheer to create a fulfilling and inspiring local way of life that can withstand the shocks of rapidly shifting global systems.

This is the book that frames the movement.  It is available thru the Sarasota County library.  If you read it you will understand what we are trying to do here.  Each community has to start their own initiative.  If you live in Sarasota check out that initiative.  If you don't have a transition group in your town plug into efforts that are underway.  For example Habitat for Humanity, the Boys and Girls Club.....whatever organizations speak to you.  We are the change.  You are the change.  Just do it.  The future thanks you.
